This project involved the integration of a new railcar loading platform into an existing industrial building at a high-value edible oils facility serving the chocolate industry. The system was engineered to protect product integrity, support safe operations across coupled railcar strings, and meet strict environmental compliance requirements.

Challenge

The client required a new railcar loading platform to be integrated into an existing facility while maintaining uninterrupted operations and absolute product integrity. Loading and unloading activities needed full weather protection to prevent any water ingress that could compromise edible oil quality.

Operational constraints included permanently coupled railcar strings that could not be uncoupled, requiring continuous safe access along the entire platform length. Additionally, the presence of a nearby irrigation ditch imposed strict environmental regulations, making spill containment and controlled drainage critical to the project’s success.

  • Coordinated directly with CN for precise rail line placement
  • Poured a large engineered concrete pad sloped centrally and longitudinally toward a dedicated catch basin
  • Ensured effective spill containment and controlled drainage away from the environment
